Changes in work permit system for highly qualified specialists

Since 10 April, non-EEA nationals who are already lawfully resident in the State (Ireland) and hold a valid Certificate of Registration (GNIB card) with Stamps 1, 1A, 2, 2A and 3 immigration permissions, and who have been offered employment in an occupation included in the “Highly Skilled Occupations” list are allowed to apply for an Employment Permit, whilst already legally residing in the State.

The scope of this initiative is being widened from those occupations on the “Highly Skilled Eligible Occupations” list to all occupations except those on the “Ineligible Categories of Employment” list.

These additional improvements to the Employment Permits regime will help the DJEI meet its objective of providing a system that can quickly respond to skills gaps, can quickly process applications and can be used by employers, with confidence to acquire those skills they are unable to source in Ireland.
